6. Reflecting on a Pointless and Wasteful Life
Longchen Nyingtik Meditation 6
The Beginning
Take refuge and arouse bodhichitta.
The Main Part
Imagine a person who sets out to search for treasure across the vast ocean, he arrives finally at the Isle of Jewels, full of wish-fulfilling jewels. Yet he returns home empty-handed or with only one unworthy gem. Wouldn’t it be a great shame and downright foolish! Similarly, I have now finally arrived at the isle of precious human existence. Should I fail to fetch the jewel of the Dharma and miss its genuine essence, should I only indulge in triviality and squander my life away, then I’ll die with no realization of the Dharma at all, and my trip of having gained a precious human birth will amount to nothing at all! I must, therefore, cherish the present moment and resolve once and for all to practice the Dharma energetically.
The Ending
Dedicate all the merit of your practice to all sentient beings.
