Tashi Triling is located in Derge of the Tibetan Kham region. In Tibetan, “tashi triling” means “the land of an auspicious throne”, as the sacred mountain of Hayagriva where the center is located takes the shape of a throne. The mountain is near the birthplace of Khenchen Sherab Zangpo Rinpoche. It was also where Vairotsana, a Dzogchen master and one of Padmasambhava’s 25 disciples, was once in retreat in the eighth century.

Tashi Triling was established in 1994 with the blessing from His Holiness Jigme Phuntsok Rinpoche. The site where it is built was the residential place of King Gesar’s uncle the Supreme Archon and his generals in the 11th century. It is surrounded by stunning mountains, lush trees and clear rivers, and is ideal for Dharma study and spiritual practice.

The Dharma center has the Guru Rinpoche Hall, the Mandala Palace of Zangdoc Palri, the Manjushri Hall, the Memorial Hall of His Holiness Jigme Phuntsok and the Vajrasattva Palace. There are also prayer wheels, stupas, mani stones and walls as well as other sacred objects and representations of the Three Jewels. It is one of the main dharma centers where Khenchen teaches and goes on retreat. There is also a resident monastic community whose members study and practice here, preserving and continuing the lineage of His Holiness Jigme Phuntsok Rinpoche’s teachings.
