82. Paramita of Patience II — Patience Without Focus
Longchen Nyingtik Meditation 82
The Beginning
Take refuge and arouse bodhicitta.
The Main Part
Reflect that your physical body and those of offenders can be reduced to atoms, and ultimately into partless particles that have no intrinsic existence. Speech, likewise, vanishes into thin air when its color or other characteristics are analyzed. The mind, when searched for its identifiable feature, is found to be essenceless, devoid of color, shape, and inherent nature, nor does it have any place of arising or cessation.
That is, upon detailed analysis from the aspect of self and others, enemies, insulting words, harmful actions, and emotional upheavals all turn into emptiness without exception. Having arrived at such a conviction, rest your mind in an unborn and void state.
Reminder
Normally, when you are not impinged by pronounced sufferings, you may skimp over this meditation half-heartedly. However, in times of distress, such as when you are undeservedly misunderstood, framed, or verified, you are pushed deeper in this contemplation and come to see that, indeed, everything is empty in nature, from which you find solace and a way to revive your spirit.
In fact, our problem is our lack of practice. Otherwise, even this instruction alone can help us resolve many of our daily agonies and dilemmas.
The Ending
Dedicate the merit of your practice to all sentient beings.
