13. The Impermanence of the Outer Universe and the Beings Living in It
Longchen Nyingtik Meditation 13
The Beginning
Take refuge and arouse bodhichitta.
The Main Part
Think about the outer environment including mountains, plains, grasslands, and so on, as well as the inhabitants living in it exemplified by men and women of different countries and ethnicities. Their nature is basically impermanent. According to Buddhist scripture, the entire material universe is subject to final destruction by seven stages of blazing fire and one huge flood. All living beings in the world are subject to death without exception as well. Then how can we fancy that the lives and bodies of us humans will be long lasting?
Therefore, absolutely all things in the world, animate or inanimate, are transient, none of them has any reality or permanence. There is no sense at all to cling to them. The most meaningful pursuit of this life, it turns out, is the quest of the supreme Dharma.
The Ending
Dedicate all the merit of your practice to all sentient beings.
