The 8th World Youth Buddhist Symposium probing the intersection of Buddhism and artificial intelligence ended on July 28, with a rich closing ceremony that included color, dancing and music.
Two hours of performances and speeches included Tibetan dancers, Korean dancers, and even "Chinese Kung Fu," a rousing dance by young Buddhist students from Malawi.
More than 1,300 participants from around the world celebrated the new friends they had made, and how they had stretched their understanding on Buddhism.
They also honored how much everyone had applied themselves, through 10 awards ceremonies for everything from superior stagecraft to brilliant essays.
The 8th World Youth Buddhist Symposium had attracted participants from over 30 countries, reflected in a colorful final flag ceremony.
Khenpo Sodargye Rinpoche, president of the World Youth Buddhist Society that organizes the annual symposium, through a video, congratulated the success of the event, and encouraged attendees to extend their compassion to all the sentient beings.
Dr. Vanchai Sirichana, vice president of Mae Fah Lung University, said in closing remarks that increased understanding of the role of artificial intelligence from the event gave her hope for the world's future.
"Due to this," she said, "I believe we are eligible to develop AI alongside Buddhist teachings."
Ven. Vajiramedhi, a monk and Buddhist leader, said the conference stood out in its value.
"Not every conference has the goodness to improve our world like this conference," he said. "How lucky I am to be part of this conference."
