Mahayana Vaipulya Sutra of Total Retention
Mahayana Vaipulya Sutra of Total Retention , expounded by the Buddha before his Parinirvana, mainly discusses what maligning the Dharma is and why maligning the Dharma and slandering Dharma teachers is a heavy transgression. In order to avoid committing this grave crime, it is suggested to study this sutra prior to discussing and teaching the Dharma. As it is said in the text, this Mahayana sutra has the quality to awaken those who haven’t attained enlightenment. By reciting even one line, the merit it brings surpasses that of offering seven treasures that fills buddha fields as many as the sands of the Ganges river to numerous buddhas in days as many as the sands of the Ganges river.
